Curing carbon fiber is a bit of a tightrope walk. You need enough heat to get the resin moving, but if you overdo it, you’ll scorch the fabric. Our IR lamps are designed to hit that sweet spot—the exact thermal window where the resin polymerizes perfectly without ruining the surface.
Why the physics actually matter
If you’re working with high-end textiles, you can’t afford to wait around for a convection oven to warm up. That’s why we use shortwave IR emitters. Think of it like this: instead of heating the air around the part, these lamps shoot energy directly into the carbon fibers. It’s an immediate response. We obsess over the wattage-per-centimeter ratio. Why? Because if the heat doesn’t penetrate the layers evenly, you end up with internal voids. And nobody wants a part that looks great on the outside but is hollow or weak on the inside.
The gear under the hood
We don’t do “generic.” We build these lamps with heavy-duty quartz glass because rapid cycling creates a lot of thermal shock. Cheap glass just won’t hold up. Depending on your setup, we can do R7s or Sk15 connectors so everything clicks into place securely. We also tailor the voltage and length to your specific machine. This stops those annoying voltage drops you get with long runs. If you’re running a 400V system, you’re going to get a lot more punch per tube. Just a heads-up: make sure your power supply can handle that initial surge of current when you flip the switch.
Real talk: Life on the shop floor
Here is the thing: these lamps put out a massive amount of heat. If your cooling fans and vents aren’t up to the task, the housing will overheat and your filaments will burn out way too soon. It’s a simple fix, but it’s a common mistake. And please, keep your reflectors clean. It sounds trivial, but a little bit of dust on the mirror can kill your efficiency by 20%. That forces the lamps to work harder and run hotter than they need to. Wire them up right, keep the dust off the mirrors, and these things will keep humming along for thousands of cycles.
