
Getting the Heat Right in Tight Spaces
If you’ve ever worked with a bending furnace that isn’t a standard shape, you know the struggle. You use straight IR lamps, and suddenly you’ve got these annoying dead zones where nothing is heating up, or worse—hotspots that scorch your parts. When your machine footprint is cramped, you can’t just push the heating elements back to save the workpiece. That’s not an option. The lamp has to actually follow the curve of the part. The trick with gold coating Here is how we handle that. We apply a thin layer of gold to the quartz envelope. Now, standard quartz lamps waste a lot of energy just heating up the air around them. Not these. The gold reflects that infrared radiation forward, pushing the heat directly onto your target. It’s a lot more efficient. You’ll notice the parts ramp up to temperature faster, and your power bill will actually look a bit better. Making it fit Off-the-shelf lamps are great until you have a non-standard curve. Then they’re useless. We don’t do “close enough.” We take your exact length and bend radius and build the tube to match your furnace interior perfectly. Whether it’s a U-shape, a circular arc, or something totally weird, we make it fit. Plus, you can ditch those bulky reflectors that eat up all your workspace. A few things to keep in mind It’s not all magic; there are some trade-offs. Bending quartz puts a lot of mechanical stress on the material. Because of that, you can’t just bend these on the shop floor—they have to be formed during manufacturing. And a heads-up on the gold: it’s a bit picky. If oil or dust builds up on that gold layer, your heat output will dip. You’ve got to keep the tubes clean to keep that heat density where it needs to be.
